All right minions, I need you to do my bidding!
I’ve been on this kind of blog research kick thingy lately. I’ve been trying to spread my seed (not in a biblical way), connect with people, find new blogs, find new interesting people to interact with. Not that you guys aren’t interesting, but ya’ know the more the merrier.
So, I’m looking around and… I can’t find much. :(
Oh I’m sure it’s out there, I just haven’t found it.
In my interwebz travels I have seen a whole lot of “inspirational” blogs. You know the kind that post pics of waterfalls and sunsets, and everything brings an epiphany. That’s nice and all but I’m not that serious. I have my deep side but I don’t want to dwell in it too long, you get consumed. No offense to your rainbows and shiz. Namaste.
Then there are a whole lot of “subject” blogs. A lot of stuff that doesn’t pertain to me. Computer tech blogs, home remodeling blogs, food blogs, bike riding blogs, fitness blogs, CEO blogs, pet owner blogs, refrigerator repairman blogs, etc. The only 2 “subjects” that I check out once in a while are writing and marketing. But there is only so much of that I can take. Not to be all like “the world revolves around me” but if I’m not interested in the subject why do I want to read it? Well sometimes I just open stuff up to see what’s there and how good (or bad) the writing is, but I’m not subscribing. How many of you men out there have a subscription to “Scrapbooking Monthly”? I rest my case.
Then there are the blogs that I am most over… Mommy Blogs. Again, no offense (which totally means I WILL inevitably offend someone) but there are 8 million Mommy Blogs. They all basically say the same thing, “My kids are a handful, but are the cutest in the world, and I’m so cute with my wearing pajamas all day or going to work with spitup on my dress”. I TOTALLY get that! That WAS me… about 12 years ago. I did the little kid thing, mostly by myself and I don’t need to relive being totally out of milk and food and having to pack up 3 kids under the age of 6 (2 of which were having meltdowns) to make an otherwise 5 minute trip to the store because their Father took off. I’m getting an anxiety attack just thinking about it. Seriously, like I just got a rash…
I mean I don’t mind parenting blogs, after all I’m still a parent. Mine just happen to be 19, 16, and 14 now. I’m on to things like sexting, sports injuries, drinking and sex at college, drinking and sex in high school, proper use of Instagram’s Insta-Chat, internships, college applications, walking the fine line between adult and kid, and when is it ok for your over 18 kid to swear in front of you when you curse like a sailor? It’s just a different place, that’s all.
So, what I’m asking is… please send me the funny. Really, please recommend funny blogs to me. And not to be a putz but some of the supposed “really funny” blogs out there are just… not funny. To me. I like clever wit. Really smart stuff. The Bloggess is ok but I don’t know, the lazy underachieving Mom thing has been done to death. (even though I do it a little, but I temper it with overachieving kids, heh) My friend Renee’ Schuls-Jacobson is a chuckle when she’s not being emo or inspirational. heh heh xo girl! Also, I adore my kindred spirit MG , with a blog name like Smartassery how can I not love?
If I’ve forgotten any of you, please forgive me. But I beg you, please point me towards some funny blogs. Like funny smart, slightly weird blogs. I love quirky, campy. Oh, I love me some drag queens! Lol, being a realtor does make you look at the lighter side of life. I want to be a stay home writer. I did that for two years, but now I’m back at work full time as a mortgage loan officer. I miss being able to write often, but maybe that door will open for me in the future.
You might like my blog. The topics range so it’s not always on the humor spectrum, but I like to mix it up. My most recent post is a good example of my weirdo humor.

No girl, you aren’t one. I mean you have similar subject matter but you don’t write the same damn thing everyday. lol
I freely admit, I can’t stand mommy most mommy blogs. I am in the same place you are, my girls are 18 and 14 (sure with the baby coming I will be a grampa soon but thats a different world). And there are a few tech blogs I like because the writing is more everyday geek instead of high and mighty geek.
Most of what I end up reading is beer and food related and now I have been adding in writing sites more as well (but with those it is hard to find original ones or ones not trying to hawk their get rich quick with amazon schemes).
I would love to find more like you (don’t worry you are still a goddess and I could never replace you). But those who share their life are few and far between. Is it so wrong for people to share their life without feeling like they are trying to sell you something?

Well, I have a few suggestions for ya – because even though I am unable to WRITE humor, doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy READING humor (and, really, I’m pretty damn funny in real life. Really, I am). Despite my rather serious last post (and few posts before that-not sure why I’ve been on such a serious kick), my blog actually is, overall, a humor blog.
And I totally know what you mean about The Bloggess and certain other blogs that are “supposed” to be funny. I just finished reading her book, “Let’s Pretend This Never Happened,” and found her humor to be so tiresome and predictable by the end. I am also on the hunt for new humor blogs, so I am going to read your commenters’ suggestions too!

What a great post. I’m glad you put the word out to find something funny. I’m going to look at the recommendations. I got the same physically ill reaction when you were talking about packing up 3 little ones just to make a 5 minute trip for milk. That was my life as a single mother while their dad didn’t have a worry in the world. Slept like a baby every night with whichever current wife he was with while I slept with a phone at my head until they grew up. Oh who am I kidding, I still have the phone at my head even though they all live on their own now. I’m with you though, I wouldn’t mind a useless funny blog which I feel stupider for reading it. Love those kinds of movies too — it’s like a great free and legal drug. LOL
Oh girl, we need to talk. lol You are so right about how “he” slept like a baby everynight with his young little girlfriend cuddled up to him. Grrrr. anyway, let’s read some funny and forget it!

I may be a little biased….but I think my blog Hairpin Turns Ahead is pretty funny. It’s about navigating life’s twists, turns, and inevitable changes. I write about divorce, dating after 40, raising boys as a single mom and more. Some posts are funny. Some are more poignant. But all are real.
